Guard Rig

Today I did the guard rig, it was long and difficult but I managed it...

Here I paid out the skeleton...

Adding the IK handles on the legs and the elbow and knee controls...

Adding the Hip joint and Clusters for the spine rig...

Adding IKs to rig the arms as well as adding attributes for the hands and fingers...

Sorting out the shoulder joints...

Final result

Patches Rig

Sorry for the late reply, this work was done on saturday and mostly on sunday.

I begun working on creating a rig for Patches. Here are some processes I went through...

Above: Patches with his skeleton

Above: Pole vectors used in conjunction with an IK handle on the leg and some ikSC solvers for his feet to create some knee rigs

Above: Hip joint used in the centre of the skeleton

Above: Used some clusters linked to the skeleton's spine

Above: IK handle used to rig the arms with finger movements used via the attributes editor

Above: Final rigged character

All that I need to do now and aim to get done by tuesday next week will be to have all rigs for all four characters completed and most (if not all) of them weight painted.

beard and hair

View of the finished beard and hair...

The hair

Breadbeards hair was created using a similar technique used for the beard. I extruded faces and then modelled them to look like spike strands by shrinking down the tips and giving curls and turns in the middle.

Beard coming along

With the beard coming along and with help from lewis I begun curling the middle of the beard parts to give him a mewo lion like appearance yet retaining an element of a spiky and rough beard typical fo a pirate.

New beard

After extruding the entire beard area on his face failed dismally i tried something new. I begun extruding selected faces on the head and stretching them to a decent length before I shrunk the ends to create blocky like points...

Making the beard...

Above all else so far, the beard has been the most annoying thing to make on breadbeard. After thinking about it I begun extruding the area on his face which would be attached the the beard to see what happened... We got an abraham lincoln like look.

Guard body complete

Now the guard's body is finished. Finally adding the buttons and fold on his shirt while lewis made a badge for his hat and belt...

Guard face complete

With the exception of the eyes, the guards head is now complete...

Teeth

Now without further ado (or however it's spelt) I have begun modelling the guards teeth. Unlike breadbeards, the guard has nicer looking teeth which won't be knocked out, broken, smashed or too spaced.

Bagsies

Lewis was unhappy with the quality of the bags under his eyes so I had to go back and change them a bit...

Body Again...

Nothing major, just further touching up to give it a better quality. The belt has become more well modelled to and his feet are slightly changed.

Furthering A Head...

Here is the guards head after some further details added. His nose now has a bevel to block it out a bit, eyebrows have been extruded and also bevelled and I have begun modelling bags under his eyes...

Guard Hand

Now on to the body. I have begun modelling the hands to give him a 3-fingered one with fairly short fingers to make them look pudgy.

Again with the Hands

Further handywork (no pun intended)...Here I have applied a bevel to the edges of his fingers to give them a blocky look similar to that of Breadbeards. I have also created some nails which i created through a combintion of extrusions and resizing...

Above: Hand smoothed

Progress on the Guard...

Now I have added sleeves to the guards arms, the collar to his shirt and begun forming the belt around his waist...
Above: Unsmoothed guard model

Above: Smoothed guard model, the centre vertexes not merged which has accidentally left the bump right down the centre. This will be corrected...

Guards ear

One of the first things I did with the rough model of the guards head was give him some ears. By extruding a single face of the Guard, further extruding the forward facing face of the ear but pushing it downwards instead I was able to create it.

After this i added a bevel to the inside and outside edge loops to give it a slightly more blocky look, though not as much as the more broad Captain Breadbeard, since the Guard is more fat than block in specific areas...

Above is the unsmoothed ear with a bevel

Above is the smoothed ear. The bevel i used gave the inside a more straighter edge though not too straight that it looked unsmoothed.

Guard Head

As well as the body Lewis gave me a rough 3D model of the Guard's head which would need much of his details added on...

Above is the 3D rough lewis gave me with a few initial touches added to it...

The Guard

A while ago I begun work on the guard, working from a very simple 3D model that Lewis made in the basic shape of the Guard's character. With this I begun adding more detail...

Above is the model Lewis gave to me with some initial touching up done to it...

Dissertation done...

Well now that my dissertation is done and handed in I can get back to modelling, animating and other Priates of the Produce Aisle Stuff...
